Robbery Fails to Stop Bingo Games in New Brighton

On Monday, January 29th around 6:45 p.m., a hooded man stormed into a bingo game, grabbed a tray full of bingo money, and then ran out the back door, leaving players stunned. Luckily, no one was injured at the bingo game, which took place at the American Legion Post 19, 415 N. 13th St. in New Brighton.

According to police reports, the man did not produce any weapons. The amount of money taken was not disclosed.

Adjutant of the American Legion, Bob Mugwit, said that he was selling tickets at a separate table and was not paying close attention to where the money was, when somebody ran up and said, "we're being robbed". After he had been alerted, he saw the robber make a quick escape through the front doors.

According to Mugwit, the robbery didn't even put a halt to the bingo games. He said the incident perked up a number of players, but the games were resumed after the police arrived and everyone calmed down. "Does anything stop bingo games?" he mused with a laugh. "Nobody went home. They had money invested."

Police reported that some people thought they recognized the robber, but it turned out to be a false alarm. As of Tuesday afternoon, the police still had no suspects, but they are optimistic that with surveillance footage, they will be able to catch the robber.
