On December 16, 2006, the holiday cheers came early for a grandmother living in Exeter. Jane Stevens won the 100,000 pound Jackpot prize at the National Bingo Game. 49 year-old Jane, who lives on Cowper Avenue, Wonford, is planning to use the money that she won to buy a new home and pay for the mortgage of her present home of over 2 decades. Jane, a shop supervisor, is also hoping to trade her old vehicle, a Metro, for a newer one. Jane Stevens won the prize while playing bingo at the Mecca Bingo Hall located on North Street that Saturday Night. But despite the big win, Jane said that she will not stop working at the Co-op store in Fore Street, located in the city center.
Although Jane Stevens has been playing bingo for almost 14 years now, this is her first major Jackpot win. Aside from the National Bingo Game Jackpot Prize, Jane has taken home the regional and house Jackpot prizes. Stevens claims that since this is the first time she has ever won anything this big she was really nervous and shocked. She further added that she only received the tickets and won the top prize by chance. Stevens says that her win will not really sink in until she receives the check during the next 2 weeks.
Stevens further stated that the money will be a big help with Christmas and New Year shopping and ensuring that she and her family enjoy the upcoming holidays. Jane also said that she will pay the mortgage on her home, give it to her son and buy a new one, since a 2 bedroom house is not an ideal place to live with a 5 members family.
Jane currently lives with her partner, William Tubb, her 8 year old daughter Lauren, her 28 year old son Darren, and his girlfriend Angelique Mills. Her two grandchildren, Macauley and Courtney, currently live in Windsor near London, while her other grandchild, Ellie, lives in Wales.
The operations manager for the Mecca Bingo Hall in Exeter said that it was the first time that a player from the city had won the National Bingo Game this year.
