Georgetown Officials May Ban Smoking During Bingo Games

The City Manager of the Town of Georgetown made an offhand comment that about 60% of the people who play bingo games around the city smoke while they are playing, but if a new city ordinance regarding a citywide Smoking Ban passes at the City Council in Georgetown, the days of those who smoke are numbered.

On November 14, 2006, City Manager, Paul Brandenburg commented that the city has regular Bingo games at the Elks' Lodge and the American Legion Hall. He claims that smoking while a Bingo game takes place may become obsolete if the strict smoking regulation is passed without even a slight change of its intent and wording.

City Manager, Paul Brandenburg further stated that players will still be able to smoke during the club's Members Only Events, but they cannot do so when the halls are open to the public, like in Bingo games. The City Council of Georgetown will be doing the first reading that night and will hold another one before the final vote for the smoking ordinance takes place.
