Bingo Players Foil Robbery Attempt in Edmonton Bingo Hall

On Wednesday, December 27, 2006, the regular bingo players at the Edmonton Bingo Hall leaped into action, stopping a would be robber who broke into the building through the ceiling.

According to the employees at Fort Road Bingo, a man in his late 30's to early 40's asked permission to use the bathroom of the bingo halls before 5:00 p.m. But moments later, 30 year-old kitchen manager, Joe Choufi, heard a strange noise overhead. While he was cooking hamburgers, a man suddenly fell from the ceiling directly onto the overhanging vent.

But surprisingly, the suspect climbed back up the ceiling and then started crawling the tiles again. According to 30 year old Lenny Harding, one of the regular bingo players, the man was screaming at the top of his lungs for someone to show him the way out. She had just ordered her lunch from the bingo hall cafeteria and was waiting in a queue across the room when the incident happened.

The bizarre incident continued as the robber's feet broke through the tiles of the roof for a second time and he hung about a meter above the kitchen, hanging onto the electric cord that kept him from falling. Both Harding and Choufi were among those people who subdued the man by hanging onto his legs and then pinning him down until the authorities arrived at the scene.
