A lot of people feel that there is nothing like the happiness and adrenaline of playing bingo with many cards, daubing each number diligently as the bingo caller yells it out and waiting for the inevitable BINGO! December 28, 2006, the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post#10082 located at Lake Butler had the chance to do this and will continue to do so every Thursday night. The public is welcome to join in the fun and games. Every Thursday night at 7:00 p.m., the auxiliary members at the VFW Post at C.R. 231 South play Bingo together, while the numbers appear on the screen and are read aloud by the bingo caller.
Snacks are usually served and the auxiliary allows 3 smoking breaks during the 2 hour bingo game, which has a total of 21 regular games. Aside from playing bingo, these VFW ladies also sell packs of cards. The usual payout is determined by the number of people who play that night. The Jackpot is usually around $100, depending on the size of the crowd. The proceeds that are earned each Bingo night will go directly to the veterans, including the hospitals that take care of the veterans, the McCoy retirement home and soldiers who are posted overseas.
In addition to Bingo and helping out the Veterans, the auxiliary members also have a cancer table. Each member of the Auxiliary brings items for the raffle. The proceeds from the raffle are then donated to cancer research and treatment. The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post#10082 would like to invite everybody to their bingo night not only for fun every Thursday, but also to help raise much needed funds for the many noteworthy causes that the Auxiliary supports.
Both the VFW Ladies' and Men's Auxiliaries not only supports the members of the VFW but also the community. If anyone has family members that are serving tours of duty abroad, they can contact Ruth Tyre with the name and address and the VFW will send care packages to that service member. If anyone from the public is interested to join the VFW's auxiliaries, they can call Ms. Ruth Tyre at (386) 496-3064 or Ladies Auxiliary President Annie Pittman at (386) 496-1140.
