Gay Bingo - Not Your Typical Bingo Game

Anyone who truly loves playing bingo will have a really hard time imagining anyone having a bad time playing bingo. Bingo may seem to be an easy game, but you still need skills to play it while simultaneously drinking and socializing with your friends during the actual game. November 17, 2006, it seems that good times might have gotten even better because of the main sponsors of the Gay Bingo Event, an annual bingo game in Texas now in its 5th year.

One of the main organizers of the event, Henry Ramirez, said that many of their participants dress up in costumes and it is a different theme each month. The Gay Bingo Event is handled by the Resource Center of Dallas. The event is held at the Lakewood Theater in Dallas, Texas. The profits from the bingo game will benefit the John Thomas Gay and Lesbian Center situated in Dallas. The bingo games are considered one of the top money drawers of the center, which generates approximately $7,000 - $9,000 per month. The bingo games are hosted by Patti LePlaeSafe and Jenna Skyy, who open the bingo evening with a couple of dances and a show. Aside from the 15 regular bingo games, there are also free chips and salsa that the contestants can partake in.

In addition, there are roller-skating drag queens and special guests at the Gay Bingo Event, as well as gift certificates and tickets for the concerts of Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey. Jose Hoselton, more popularly known as Jenna Skyy, said that a first timer at the event would probably see many players dressed as princesses and they are also guaranteed to have a great time.

The style of play is also different this month because instead of the usual parallel rows, the bingo cards contain some cute and unusual patterns which would surely entertain the player. Henry Ramirez said that many of their players are straight. Some of the rules that they impose in their games are that they send players to "jail" for calling a false bingo and for not keeping their cellular phones in silent mode. He further added that the "jailed" player is required to pay a $20 fine to get out of the jail. Sometimes, if the offender is really cute, Rodd Gray, aka LePlaeSafe requires them to take their shirts off or confiscate their cellular phones and call their mothers to make them explain where they are.

Players at the hall reach about 500 people on a really good night. Players can bring their own food, but there is a concession stand available for those players who have none. Those interested in joining must remember the following details: the Gay Bingo Event will be held at the Lakewood Theater located at 1825 Abrams Parkway, Dallas on November 16, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. in the evening. There are no games scheduled for the month of December. The games will resume on January 20, 2006 which will require players to wear costumes from Grease. The cost of the games is $15 for 10 regular bingo games and $20 for 15 regular bingo games. For more information call 214-528-0144 or log in at rcdallas.org/gaybingo/.
