80 Year Old Former DHSS Care Home Inspector Becomes Bingo Caller at Wayside New Road Care Home
Last December 31, 2006, the word retirement was definitely not in the vocabulary of one of the bingo callers who usually visits Bromsgrove Care Home, despite the fact that he celebrated his 80th Birthday on New Year's Eve. The bingo caller, Gordon Hayward, is a part of the usual activity coordination team at the Wayside New Road Care Home. His main role consists of visiting the Care Home every Wednesday to operate and manage the ever popular and well-known bingo nights for the residents of the care home.
Gordon Hayward, a former Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) inspector of care homes in the area, is even older than some of the residents of the Wayside Care Home. He says that he has built a good relationship with many of the residents in his 14 years of work at the care home and most of them really look forward to participating in the bingo games each time.
